A Second Adam

“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”

~ 1 Corinthians 15:22

“The Christ of God was not then first crucified when the Jews brought Him to the Cross; but Adam and Eve were His first real murderers; for the death which happened to them in the day when they did eat of the earthly tree was the death of the Christ of God or the divine life in their souls. For Christ had never come into the world as a second Adam to redeem it, had He not been originally the life and perfection and glory of the first Adam.”

Holy Power

“You shall receive power…”

~ Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

The Christian life is lived out in the power ‘δύναμις‘ of God. Namely, this power is the inner presence of the Holy Spirit. The believer who seeks to live a spiritual life by natural means will find himself weak and ill-equipped for such an undertaking. Therefore, through the enabling gift, strength and ability of the Spirit, we can live unto the Lord by the power He grants. This is power to endure trials, power over sin, power for ministry, power to worship, power to bear forth fruits of the Spirit, power to boldly witness for Christ and His Church. Let us then live by faith in a strong Savior that has sent His people such wonderful, gracious and holy power.

Each Day Marked

“So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

~ Psalm 90:12

“A life once spent is irrevocable. It will remain to be contemplated through eternity… The same may be said of each day. When it is once past, it is gone forever. All the marks which we put upon it, it will exhibit forever… Each day will not only be a witness of our conduct, but will affect our everlasting destiny… How shall we then wish to see each day marked with usefulness! It is too late to mend the days that are past. The future is in our power. Let us, then, each morning, resolve to send the day into eternity in such a garb as we shall wish it to wear forever. And at night let us reflect that one more day is irrevocably gone, indelibly marked.”

~ Adoniram Judson

No Room For Crosses

“Christ and His cross are not separable in this life, howbeit Christ and His cross part at heaven’s door, for there is no house-room for crosses in heaven. One tear, one sigh, one sad heart, one fear, one loss, one thought of trouble cannot find lodging there.”

~ Samuel Rutherford

All Nations

All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, And shall glorify Your name. For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God.

~ Psalm 86:9-10 (NKJV)

In these verses, the Psalmist expresses his earnest belief that the ability of the Lord to save, and His being the only true living God, would yet pervade all the nations of the earth. David seems to rest this assurance of God to return the nations to Himself on the greatness of God and His wondrous works, concluding all nations would one day come and worship before Him.

The hope of the Psalmist is the hope of Scripture; that all peoples from every nation, tongue, and tribe would one day come to possess a saving interest in the Lord Jesus Christ and come to worship God in His holiness. In Isaiah 2:2 we read the Lord will establish Himself in Mount Zion that “all the nations will stream to it.” And earlier in the Psalms we have the promise of God to the coming Messiah to give Him “the nations as His inheritance“.

The testimony of Scripture and the promise of God is no less sure because these things may seem so long delayed. The Gospel of Christ has gone forth with power and authority into the nations and it will accomplish it’s purpose. Of the nature or duration of the powers and principalities of this world, none can be sure. Only one thing is certain – that the kingdom of God will be set up, and that the Redeemer‘s throne will be well-established over all the earth; and that “all nations shall come and worship before God, and shall glorify His name.”

The Core & Center

“Sound Bible exposition is an imperative must in the Church of the Living God. Without it no church can be a New Testament church in any strict meaning of that term. But exposition may be carried on in such way as to leave the hearers devoid of any true spiritual nourishment whatever. For it is not mere words that nourish the soul, but God Himself, and unless and until the hearers find God in personal experience they are not the better for having heard the truth. The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts.”

~ A.W. Tozer

The Church

“The true man of God is heartsick, grieved at the worldliness of the Church…grieved at the toleration of sin in the Church, grieved at the prayerlessness in the Church. He is disturbed that the corporate prayer of the Church no longer pulls down the strongholds of the devil… The church used to be a lightning bolt, now it’s a cruise ship. We are not marching to Zion – we are sailing there with ease. In the apostolic church it says they were all amazed – and now in our churches everybody wants to be amused. The church began in the upper room with a bunch of men agonizing, and it’s ending in the supper room with a bunch of people organizing. We mistake rattle for revival, and commotion for creation, and action for unction… The true church lives and moves and has its being in prayer.”

~ Leonard Ravenhill

All True Pleasure

“Regeneration is the point from which all true pleasure commences; you never live a cheerful day till you begin to live to God.”

~ John Flavel

“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

~ Psalm 16:11

Without Rain

“Like clouds and wind without rain is one who boasts of gifts never given”.

~ Proverbs 25:14

It is not for the Christian to speak loosely with empty words and vain promises. Those who talk themselves up in order to look more intelligent, more favorable or more popular in the eyes of others may have a form of those things, but lack the true substance. Let the words of the believer always speak with grace, as seasoned with salt. Let your nay be your nay, and your yea, your yea in the eyes of the Lord. Amen.

Like Freed Slaves

“When we submit to sin, yielding to its imperious demands, it is not a matter of yielding to the inevitable or reverting to type. We are foolishly, perversely allowing sin to dominate us when in actual fact it has neither the right nor the power to do so. We have been taken once and for all out of its territory, out of the state where it holds men and women captive and in chains. Therefore, when we submit to sin and temptation, as if it had mastery, we are like freed slaves going back into the house of their former bondage and obeying their old owner.”

~ Peter Lewis
